2003 EAST PALESTINE YOUTH SPORTS ASSOCIATION
EPYSA provides organized Baseball, Basketball and Flag Football for 500 plus youth in the East Palestine area.
Baseball is for youth aged 5 thru 16 years of age. T-Ball for ages 5 & 6, Instructional League for ages 7 & 8, Minor League for ages 9 & 10, Junior League for ages 11 & 12, Pony League for ages 13 & 14, and Colt League for ages 15 & 16 years old.
Basketball age groups are 3rd & 4th grade boys and girls and 6th grade boys and girls. Boys play boys and girls play girls.
Flag Football age groups are 3rd & 4th grade boys and girls and 5th & 6th grade boys and girls combined to form teams
EPYSA is a total volunteer organization, with exception to baseball umpires and basketball referees who are paid a fee for their services. Many of these officials are high school students who have come through these same programs.
The organization is financed through payment of fees by the participants and from sponsor fees from local businesses. The amount collected from sponsor's funds about 50% of the total budget. The other 50% being participant fees and any fund raising activities the organization undertakes.
EPYSA is dependent upon use of the facilities at the City Park for baseball and flag football, and the East Palestine School Gymnasiums for basketball. In addition to these, it has been necessary to play Instructional league baseball at Wes Ward's field in Unity and T-Ball at the School House Square field in Negley. The Held at the lower exit at the City Park was used for Minor and Junior Leagues for the 2002 season. This year it will be used for Minor League, The field atop the hill at City Park will used for the 2003 season for Junior League. It recently was upgraded to a full size Little League field, Pony and Colt leagues use the large high school, diamond.
