23rd Annual East Palestine Park Festival

In 1934, the City Council passed legislation authorizing the city to purchase what had become known as "the Old Fair Grounds" , for the purpose of establishing a city park. Until 1938, it was used mainly as a ball diamond with little attempt to keep it in good condition.
During the period from 1938 until 1941, with government help, the park was renovated as a WPA project. Excavation was begun for a swimming pool, roads were constructed, and landscaping was done. Thus from the Fair Grounds of the village of 1887 ... the Park of the City of East Palestine evolved.
The gazebo, known as the Centennial Bandstand, was built in 1975 to honor the 100th anniversary of the City of East Palestine. It has become a focal point of the Park and center stage for our festival and various forms of entertainment during the summer. In 1995, local citizens worked together to build Rainbow Dreamland, a playground for the children of the community. The spring of 1999 marked the completion of the East Palestine Community Center in what was formerly known as the old pavilion. It is available for community meetings and social functions. The Park has become one of the city's best known attractions and thanks to the efforts and dedication of the citizens of our community, it continues to evolve.
The Festival
The East Palestine Park Festival was founded in 1985 by Carol Harvey and Margaret Swope. The Festival began as a simple craft show and has grown over the years to include entertainment, car shows, increased business support, and extensive community involvement. This year marks the 23rd anniversary of the Festival which funds park improvements with the proceeds.
Proceeds accumulated from previous Festivals were used to construct the restroom facilities situated between the baseball diamonds. The committee recently contributed funds to a major swimming pool renovation project as well as to the East Palestine Community Center. Donations were also made to help defray the cost of the water slide and the new tennis courts. For more information please call (330) 426-9501 or (330) 426-2045.
